Sino-Portuguese Style House

Images of a Sino-Portuguese style house that we visited in Phuket, Thailand. The house was well maintained and we also met the present land lady who still happens to live there. Here one can see an old radio and a kerosene oil driven American made fan.

An old fashioned telephone, in good working order.

The cool interiors with walls decorated with photographs of various people who either lived there or were related to the people who lived there. The ceramic floor tiles were imported from Italy. The furniture was well decorated with intricate carvings.

A small water feature within the four walls of the house.

Thai way of life

One of the major highlights of our Island park tour was an Elephant ride. Elephants are an integral part of Thai rural life and they are looked after well and also worshiped. Agriculture is one of the main money earning ventures in this part of the world, which was well displayed, so also use of sustainable resources in the construction of houses, furniture, vessels etc.

Rubber extraction

Rubber sap extraction in progress. The rubber industry is fairly well developed in Thailand with lot many rubber plantations across the country. Here the rubber sap is being extracted which subsequently is hardened by mixing with chemicals. Once this hardening happens, its rolled into thin sheets and then dried in the sun before being sold to the industries involved in making rubber based products.
